Season Summary[]
The series began with 18 castaways being divided into three different tribes, Bonan, Grubs, and Serat Serat. Both Bonan and Serat Serat saw the rises of the Bonan Alliance and the Serat Serat Alliance, but Grubs was too fractured for a true alliance to form. The three tribes were almost evenly matched in challenges until a tribe swap on Day 11 dissolved the four-member Grubs tribe into the remaining two.
Jon Jafari and The Hurricane were sent to Serat Serat, where they became closer as they formed a solid relationship with the Serat Serat Alliance. Frank Eudy and Ian Terry were both sent to Bonan, where the former worked closely with the Bonan Alliance, led primarily by Shinzo Abe and Kneesocks Demon. Ultimately, it was Serat Serat that ended up attending the next three Tribal Councils, and at that point the Serat Serat Alliance began to fall apart because of the threat of an impending merge. After 17 days, the two tribes merged into Herbert Allen.
Early in the merge, it was the Bonan Alliance that was able to control the game and be responsible for effectively wiping out the original Grubs tribe. However, Hermann Fegelein distanced himself from the alliance in order to pursue his own personal agenda with outsider Claude Frollo, but he was ultimately blindsided by his own alliance. At this point, Frollo became the main target of the Bonan Alliance, but he was able to win immunity several times in a row in order to protect himself. With the strategy and the power of the alliance shifting, Shinzo ultimately found a better opportunity to win the game when he ditched the Bonan Alliance in order to forge a deal with Frollo, and the two were able to successfully wipe out the remnants of the alliance by Day 39, with Strong Bad joining the two at the Final Tribal Council.
At the Final Tribal Council, all three finalists were criticized by the jury, with Strong Bad being criticized for being unable to improve his own position in the game, Frollo for having to rely on immunity challenges in order to stay alive, and Shinzo for being duplicitous to his own alliance. Despite that, Shinzo received credit for being an architect of the Bonan Alliance and looking out for his own game, which allowed him to become the first Sole Survivor by a vote of 6-2-0.
